The Theatre in the Park staged Cameron Mackintosh’s Barnum, and the Chichester Festival Theatre produced show, Neville’s Island. It also played host to a number of one-night special events, and University graduation ceremonies. The temporary structure allowed the theatre to continue to wow audiences, maintain revenue, and their connection to their audiences, whilst the redevelopment works took place.
Entourage Live worked closely alongside the management team, show producers, technical staff, and audience facing teams to deliver the Theatre in the Park project.
The greenfield site located next to the theatre was transformed with a bespoke structure that created a clear span audience and performance space similar to the main Chichester Festival Theatre auditorium. The theatre tent structure contained 1,400 seats and was able to support a 24ton rigging capacity – a vital criterion considering that one show included multiple flying acts. Back of house areas were created for the cast, band, and other performance support departments.
The Chichester audiences are accustomed to excellent hospitality, so in addition to the theatre space, an attractive audience bar and luxury toilet facilities were created. The venue was fully air conditioned and fully blacked out with sound absorbing material, to ensure the best acoustics within the venue; and controlled noise impact to the surrounding area. The site was created to be fully accessible for all patrons.
The entire venue and first show were installed, and ready to open within just six weeks, while the dismantle took only three weeks.
