Shell Eco-Marathon
Brief
The Eco-marathon was born in 1939 as a bet between engineers working at Shell to see who could drive a vehicle furthest on 1 gallon of fuel. The idea grew into a major international educational program, with the current record of 12,665 mpg set by PAC-Car II in 2005.
In 2012 Imagination was tasked with transforming this initiative into a public-facing engagement platform. Initially held in Rotterdam, we were brought in to support Imagination’s team in delivering a festival style site and provide a temporary campsite accommodation suitable for 2000 European engineering students.
The Delivery
The Rotterdam event was a resounding success, attracting over 40,000 visitors to watch the competition and explore The Lab, a cutting edge educational exhibition experience. Entourage continued to provide production consultancy services to the program for the next five years, helping open inaugural events in Manila and support eco-marathons in Singapore, Detroit and London.
We supplied production and support staff for the many of the events, working alongside the in-house Imagination teams across Europe and Asia. We also supported the Eco-marathon race teams and the Shell Health & Safety team, ensuring all construction and management was completed to the highest of standards.
The Shell Eco-marathon continues to grow and expand year-on-year, reaching audiences the world over and inspiring creativity and innovation and raising awareness of the importance of energy efficiency.
