The Brief
A large brownfield site, located in a key urban regeneration area of London and part of the former BBC Worldwide complex, was vacant whilst final plans and financing was completed on a large commercial development.
What We Did
Entourage Live were commissioned by Troubadour to help realise their plans. Designs for an innovative temporary structure were drawn up – to create two large modern theatres, with 1200 and 800 seat capacities respectively; a high-class reception bar; public facilities; and staff areas. The structures were designed to allow large clear span performance, and audience space capable of supporting the hefty flown weight of a modern show. Everything had to be fit within a tight inner-city site; and be built alongside existing commercial and residential properties.
The Entourage Live Team were responsible for project and production management of the seven-month long installation project; along with onsite CDM and construction site safety. Our planning and licensing team dealt with all logistical needs for the venue; as well as advertising consent and local authority and landlord liaison.
Project Success
Troubadour White City opened in the Summer of 2019 and, within their first season, staged productions of Peter Pan for the National Theatre, and Burberry’s Spring/Summer 2020 runway show.
The White City Theatre demonstrates how temporary venues can fit within the wider master-planning for land owners and stakeholders. The speed of construction allows efficient utilisation of land space for clients; and creates a semi-permanent cultural space to bring audiences and prestige to an area that will be developed in the coming months.
